U.S. intends to ban certain Canadian products, modify tariffs on other Canadian goods

The United States announced it will ban imports of certain Canadian products, including alcoholic beverages, certain dairy products, and motorcycles, after Canada's retaliatory tariffs on American goods came into force.

The Trump administration is also adding more Canadian products to the list of those subject to tariffs of 50 per cent, such as certain aluminum bars and rods, bamboo furniture, certain paper products, desks, lamps, golf carts, iron and steel columns, tubing, mattresses and motorboats (The full lists of impacted products are available in the appendixes of the proclamations).

In a series of five executive orders on Tuesday, Trump said Canada was "discriminating" against the U.S. and outlined the bans, which will begin on September 29.

The import bans will take effect on September 29, 2026, and the tariff additions and removals will take effect on September 15, 2026.
