The United States intends to impose new 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods

The President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, announced his intention to impose additional duties of 50% on several products exported from Canada to the United States.

The President claims the duties are in response to Canada limiting imports of U.S. motor vehicles, alcoholic beverages and dairy products. The new duties could come into effect on August 19, 2026.

The goods that could be subject to the new duties are listed in the bottom annexes of the following U.S. Presidential Proclamations:

- Imposing Additional Duties to Offset Canadian Discrimination Against the Commerce of the United States with Respect to Alcoholic Beverages
- Imposing Additional Duties to Offset Canadian Discrimination Against the Commerce of the United States with Respect to Dairy
- Imposing Additional Duties to Offset Canadian Discrimination Against the Commerce of the United States with Respect to Motor Vehicles
