Tribunal initiates safeguard inquiry on imports of certain wood goods
On the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) began an inquiry to determine whether certain wood goods are being imported into Canada in such increased quantities and under such conditions as to be a principal cause of serious injury or threat thereof to Canadian producers of like or directly competitive goods.
The inquiry is about the following three classes of goods: (1) solid and engineered wood cabinets and vanities; (2) solid and engineered hardwood flooring; and (3) engineered-wood storage furniture.
The Tribunal is being directed, if it makes an affirmative determination, to recommend the most appropriate remedy to address, over a period of three years, the injury or threat of injury, in accordance with Canada's rights and obligations under international trade agreements.
The Tribunal must report to the Minister by January 15, 2027.
Any interested person, association or government that wishes to participate in the Tribunal's inquiry may do so. For full details including description of goods and deadlines see: Safeguard Inquiry GC-2026-001
