Tariff relief consultation on certain lithium-ion accumulators

The Department of Finance is reviewing a request for the removal of customs duties:

Tariff relief consultation: section 82: electric accumulators

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of lithium-ion accumulators (batteries) used in the manufacture of electric bicycles of subheading 8711.60. These electric accumulators provide the primary source of power for the electric bicycles in question, and are classified under Tariff Item No. 8507.60.90 of the Customs Tariff as other lithium-ion accumulators, dutiable at 7.0% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff.

The applicant claims that electric accumulators are not available from Canadian production and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

If you have an interest in this request, or are aware of others who could potentially be affected by such action, we would appreciate receiving your views. Please submit your views to fin.tariff-tarif.fin@canada.ca, indicating "Section 82: electric accumulators" in the subject line, by January 23, 2026.
